ROCHESTER Alumnae ChapterWe are so glad you found our website!
The Rochester Alumnae Chapter hosts 8 – 10 events per year. Our events are a mixture of social activities, community service, and events to assist the Epsilon Tau collegiate chapter at the University of Rochester. Our local philanthropy focus is at Hillside Family of Agencies, a non-profit providing comprehensive health, education, and human services for children and families in western New York. We fill “Emergency Care Bags” for children placed in the residential care program, help with Special Santa in December, and at Camp Possibilities, their local summer camp. Gamma Phi Beta Sorority is the international sponsor of Girls on the Run, an empowerment program for girls 8 to 13 years old. We are happy to be involved locally with this program that’s “building strong girls”. Our own alumnae sister, Molly, is the director of the program here in Rochester! We are a friendly, diverse group of women of all ages from colleges and universities all over the country. Our chapter was founded in Rochester in 1945 and we are proud of our long history as an alumnae chapter. Please feel free to call or email either of us for more information about the Alumnae Chapter. We’d love to have you join us! Co-Presidents: Sue Bloch - 381-5926, sbloch@rochester.rr.com Janet Kendrick - 381-4621, [email protected] |

We aim to provide a social structure for local Gamma Phi Beta alumnae, and to continue sisterhood ties post college. We've been awarded the Circle of Excellence from International Gamma Phi Beta for the past 20 years. Our chapter serves over 400 Gamma Phi Beta alumnae in the western New York area, and we regularly attend Girls on the Run races, volunteer with Hillside, and gather for events such as potluck picnics and holiday celebrations. We are also lucky to have a local collegiate chapter at the University of Rochester and are able to celebrate Founders' Day with the Epsilon Tau chapter and have an annual dinner with the new members in the Spring.

"GPB has always held a special place in my heart beginning in college with great friends and wonderful leadership and philanthropy experiences. That same spirit of sisterhood, philanthropy, and friendship has continued on for me ever since, an ever constant thread in my life. Beginning with my first job out in Denver where I knew no one but made some fun new friends through the Denver GPB Alumnae Chapter, then fast forward life (graduate school, living back east, marriage), I joined the Buffalo GPB Alumnae Chapter for a few years before returning home to Rochester where for the past 20+ years I have been involved with the GPB Alumnae Chapter of Rochester! Our Rochester Alumni Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta offers so many opportunities for fun, friendship, philanthropy, networking, and more!! Truly - the spirit of love, labor, learning, and loyalty is ever present when you get involved with your alumnae chapter."

"I was searching for something to belong to, something that included mentoring young women, social activities with women my age, and a meaningful organization. Gamma Phi Beta has filled all of that for me. Joining the sorority has added a worthwhile purpose in my life. This is a wonderful group of good women, mentoring intelligent young college students trying to find their way in life. I also enjoy the meaningful activities and investment of my time into my community. My sisters have supported and enriched my life immeasurably, I can't imagine another activity that could have enriched my life any better. I'm so happy to be a part of something so positive." |

"When I arrived in Rochester after college, I didn’t know anyone. I decided to contact the local alumnae chapter to find a social life outside of the job and also obtain a venue for giving something back to the community. Our Rochester alumnae chapter was perfect. They were welcoming and I loved the first social project, which was sewing and filling emergency care bags for children placed in Hillside’s residential care program. When I came back to Rochester after leaving for 12 years, it was an easy decision to rejoin the Rochester Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae Chapter – it was like I never left."
